Alithea's Book Report - 11-03-2014 - Little Women

Image
Little Women was written in 1868. It was written by Louisa May Alcott. The main characters were Margaret or Meg for short, Josephine whose nickname is Jo, Elisabeth or Beth and finally, Amy. They were all sisters. The story took place in America. One day, during Christmas, a person named Mr. Laurence sent them a scrumptious dinner at their house. His grandchild Laurie became their friend.  Mr. March was not well because of an injury he got at war. His condition got worse so Mrs. March went to Mr. March as soon as possible. Then, Mr. Brooke, Mr. Laurence and Hannah ( their maid ) were left in charge of the house. Soon  after Mrs. March left, Beth got scarlet fever. Laurie  sent a telegram to tell Mrs. March that Beth got sick. After that, Amy went to live with her aunt because her aunt was too old and needed help in the house. After a while, Beth got better. Meg got married a year later and got two babies named Daisy and Demijohn. Jo also got married. W...

Book Report on Beyonders Series

Image
The Beyonders Trilogy was written by Brandon Mull. The story is about Jason and Rachel’s quest to overthrow the evil emperor Maldor in Lyrian, another world .On their journey they meet many other people who become part of the story on the next books. One of them is Ned or Nedwin. This is one of my favorite series.       In book one, A World without Heroes, Jason Walker is brought to Lyrian through a hippo and accidentally becomes the enemy of a wicked and powerful emperor by learning apart of a magic word which could destroy him. Then he meets Rachel a girl from our world. When the Blind King whose real name is Galloran tells him that he can only survive by searching for more parts of the Word, Rachel joins him and their adventure begins. When he first arrived at Lyrian he just wanted to go home, but in the end he is forced to go back even though he did not want to because he learned something very important. I like the part when Jason asked Rachel ‘H...

Book Report on Oliver Twist

Image
The title of the book is Oliver Twist. It was written by Charles Dickens and illustrated by  George Cruikshank. It was published by Lea and Blanchard in Philadelphia 1839. It is a classic  and a children story. It took me at least a month to finish it.             The story setting is in London 1830. In the book, in London 1830, boys without parents  went to orphanages until they were 9 years old or above. When they left the orphanages they  probably went to workhouses. Back then there weren't any cars or buses and people had to  ride carriages to cover long distances. In 1830 there probably more poor people than rich ones.            The main character is Oliver Twist. He is a nice little boy who is often mistreated. He  isn't selfish or rude. He is a humble boy who is very easy to please. He has many friends. ...

Journal 10-15-2014

What we did today        We started home school by making a schedule . Then Cassie and I did mental math while Thea did her PACEs. Cassie learned squaring numbers that begin with nine. I used strategies I learned four days ago for the general revision. Thea finished 5 PACEs today. Then Cassie read handwriting books to improve her handwriting while I memorized the fifth stanza of The Raven. After that Cassie read science books. Then I practiced hand writing while Cassie read Les Miserables. Cassie reached volume four of Les Miserables. Next I read Oliver Twist and Cassie practiced handwriting again and Thea did mental math. Then Thea read Little Women. It was a long and busy day.
